FILTER GUIDE

Build the pool before you roll.

Filters decide which Pokémon can appear. Changing a filter updates the pool count straight away, but your existing cards stay put until you generate again. Locked cards stay even if they no longer match the new filters.

Types: any or all?

With Any selected type, choosing Water and Flying includes a Pokémon that has either type. With All selected types, it must have both. Selecting three types in All mode gives an empty pool because a Pokémon has at most two types in this dataset.

Generation isn't the same as region

Generation is when the species debuted. A regional variant keeps its species' debut generation in this tool, even if the form arrived later. Origin region uses the species' introduction region unless a regional variant has a more specific origin such as Hisui.

These are not game-availability filters. A Kanto-origin Pokémon may appear in many later games. If you need a legal team for a specific title, check its actual Pokédex and encounter rules.

Forms

Default forms only is the simplest starting pool. All forms adds alternate entries from the source data, including Mega, Gigantamax and regional forms. Dedicated options let you isolate those groups. Not every alternate form has its own artwork, shiny sprite or cry.

Evolution stages

Branching evolutions share a stage. Alternate battle forms don't become an extra evolution stage.

Special species and stat limits

Legendary and mythical status comes from the source's species flags. Ultra Beasts and Paradox Pokémon aren't a separate toggle, so don't assume Exclude both removes them. Minimum and maximum base stats use the sum of the six base stats, not a trained Pokémon's in-game stats. The per-stat sliders work differently: each one sets a floor for a single base stat, so a Speed minimum of 120 keeps only Pokémon whose base Speed is at least 120.

Ability, gender and natures

The ability filter lists every ability in the data snapshot and matches Pokémon that can have it, including as a hidden ability. Gender is shown as the species' male/female ratio on each result card; there is no gender pool filter. Natures don't narrow the pool. They choose which natures the generator suggests on each card; select none for a fully random suggestion.

How randomness works

The picker uses the browser's cryptographic random number source. With No duplicate species enabled, it chooses an eligible species uniformly and then chooses one of that species' matching forms. Without that option, it chooses uniformly across eligible form entries. Species with more forms can then appear more often.

When nothing matches

Remove a restriction rather than pressing Generate again. Narrow types, a regional-form-only pool and a high stat minimum can easily have no overlap. If fewer unique species are available than requested, you get the available picks with a clear message instead of fake duplicates.

More on Using Filters

Start broad, then narrow

Begin with just one filter, such as a generation or a type. If the pool gets too small the generator will tell you. Combining filters lowers the pool fast, so add them one at a time.

Share your setup

The share link stores every filter, so you can send the same pool to a friend. Use the compare tool once you have a result you want to look into.
